“Estimating Wetland CO₂ Emissions/ Removals at Tahamata Farm, New Zealand Using IPCC Wetlands Supplement 2013 (Tier 1–Tier 2)”

Key Points:

• Wetlands can be both a source and a sink
• IPCC methodology
• Two things control results: (1) Area mapping (activity data) (2) Emission factors (EF)
• Tier 1 vs Tier 2 difference matters: Tier 1 uses global defaults; Tier 2 uses local factors (more realistic if good local data exist)

Impact:

• Beneficiaries: landowners/farm managers, wetland restoration teams, local communities, universities/researchers, environmental agencies, and inventory developers
• Areas of Subject: Farm transitions, climate mitigation, wetland restoration planning, coastal lowland land-use management, biodiversity co-benefits.
